Animal Update 2

We lost Spicoli sometime during the night – he was gone when I got to the pen this morning.  After John reported late last night that his breathing had become more labored and a lot wetter sounding, I mentally prepared for the inevitable.  I think I would have been more surprised if Spicoli had made it through the night.

This isn’t the first loss we’ve had on our farm.  Earlier this year, nearly our entire flock of chickens was stolen over the course of two afternoons.  We’ve lost rabbits.  We’ve lost baby chicks.  But this one does feel a little different, perhaps because the goats themselves are so different from our other animals.  They’re smarter, more demanding, and in a lot of ways, more rewarding to care for.

So, no… it isn’t the first loss we’ve had, but in some ways, it’s the hardest.

  2. So sorry to read this. But at least you gave him a fighting chance.
